Why does race remain an important public policy issue? Despite over three decades of a concerted effort to rectify past racial injustices, race remains a crucial aspect of American society with policy implications throughout our governmental systems.

With far more frequency, African Americans who have become successful athletes are not stereotyped racially but are admired for their skill and human qualities.

It is not surprising that African Americans cherish this aspect of their progress in American society.
